About This Project

Klimbz started for me over 15 years ago after graduating from NYU’s Interactive Telecommunications Program (ITP). Back then, I thought about creating interactive climbing holds. At the time, that was daunting and the technology was not ready, nor the climbing industry. It currently consists of a website and accompanying mobile app.

The Problem

As a climber who trains and climbs mostly in gyms, I wanted a way to track and analyze what I do on a regular basis. I keep a spreadsheet of my activities but it is hard to quantify and visualize everything. I thought if the gym offered a way for me to check off the climbs I did each session that would be helpful. So I started building way to do that. As I got more involved with the project, I realized that there were two sides to this problem, 1 for me as a climber and the other for the gym as owners of the information. It turns out that the routes and problems in the gym ARE the gym’s inventory. They currently have no way to analyze their own offerings. The Klimbz platform offers a complete service for gyms.

The Solution

Currently, Klimbz is a platform for indoor climbing gyms. The platform helps gym manage their inventory (routes and boulders) as well as allow their gym member interact with the data.

The platform consists of a webapp and native mobile app. The webapp uses Bootstrap as its foundation and L.A.M.P. while the mobile app is built using React Native.
